In the fast-changing world of social media and artificial intelligence, even Bollywood’s biggest stars are finding it hard to keep control of their own identities. Joining a growing list of celebrities taking legal action, actor Hrithik Roshan has now approached the Delhi High Court to protect his name, face, and voice from being used without permission.

Hrithik has filed a plea asking the court to stop anyone from using his image, likeness, or any other part of his personality for commercial purposes. Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora will hear his case on Wednesday.

The suit names several known and unknown individuals, including John Does, a legal term for unidentified people, who have allegedly used the actor’s identity for profit.

Interestingly, Justice Arora is also hearing a similar case filed by playback singer Kumar Sanu, who recently complained that fake and morphed videos featuring his face and voice were circulating online. The singer alleged that these videos not only misrepresented him but also damaged his reputation.

In response to these rising complaints, the court had earlier asked Meta and Google to explain why offensive and fake content still existed in their platforms.

The issue of personality rights says that a person’s control over how their name, image, and likeness come to use. This has become a hot legal topic in India. The misuse of celebrity identities through deepfakes and AI-generated videos has sparked growing alarm among the public figures.

Recently, the Delhi High Court protected actor Nagarjuna’s personality rights, warning that AI-generated content can easily multiply fake or misleading material once it appears online, causing long-term harm to a person’s reputation.

Last month, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan got similar protection orders. The order prevented anyone from using their names or likeness for unauthorised online content or advertisements.
